CASA HASSAN

Photobucket

We splurged in Morocco. In Chefchaouen we stayed in the perfectly quaint Casa Hassan and loved it. One of the pricier hotels in the city, and showing it's age a little, we were still very happy with this little riad filled with smiling staff and covered in decorative touches.

A traditional Moroccan dwelling, Casa Hassan consists of a central courtyard open to the sky above surrounded on all sides by three floors of private rooms. We breakfasted on pastries, apricot jam and mint tea with other guests on the main floor. Dinner was served at the restaurant just across the road where we ate olives, delicious salads with homemade cheese, lemon chicken tagine, couscous with raisins and almonds and a dish of meatballs in a spicy tomato sauce served with a baked egg. Yummy. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it.

Our room was high up on the terrace level of the building, which meant our door opened directly to the night stars. It was lovely in every way and we missed it dearly when we were no longer there.

Beautiful photos.

The meal sounded fantastic as well :)

By the way, what was the weather like? I was there in August and it climbed up to +56 degrees celsius!

The weather was really reasonable, largely warm and nice but never too hot. We were always comfortable.

Before we got there I'd read a lot about how cold it gets at night. Coming from Canada I disregarded that info, which was dumb because holy smokes, does it ever get cold at night. A complete 180 from the sunshine of the afternoon.
